Perhaps I love trash too much, but I find this a delightful, entrancing post. Even as I get sad to see us already for sometime in the world of Wall-E. A hasty “civilization“ shows up as wastey indeed. Glad to see the raccoon and rooster friends included.
PS I have my device set to black-and-white and all the photos resonate, evenwithout color.
...that baby raccoon almost climbed me...and then the rooster let me pet its head...i mean i can't say i love living around such a gigantic pile of mess but i should also note it pales in comparison the the real dumps and communities around them across the world...what is wild to me is how they can transform too...in the bay there is a landfill park called the bulb that is all art projects in nature...it totally rules to hike...but it also revealed to be radioactive recently...so great but not great...the great dichotomy of all things...also can't leave this comment without giving you kudos for being B+W on the phone -- that rules so hard...
Your post perfectly captures life in the Bay Area now - the trash, the arrogant local government, the disdain for the suckers who actually pay the taxes.
Glad you are able to find some beauty, and your work IS beautiful! I realize that I need to look a little more closely to find it.
...appreciate those kind words John...i feel like most of the world is covered in trash these days...metaphorically for sure...but unfortunately (especially in urban centers) also materially...according to trash scientists the average human makes five pounds of trash a day...wild...all to say if we are going to make it, see it, and be it, well then i better find some love inside of it...or at least try...thanks again for checking this out...
...great piece -- thank you for sharing!!!...i love the word rubbish too...and garbage...and trash...i mean its weird because all of it grosses me out too irl...but it is really fun to say and think about it...what a conundrum...
Wow. I love your post. Your photos definitely brought me back to the Bay Area. After reading your article, I feel kinda guilty for leaving my trash in places that they shouldn't be left at. Hopefully someone else will be able to pay the fine.
…that is correct - my bud’s parents sent me the OG masters and now they are buried in some hobo trash pile deep in the middle of nowhere RIP…thank you for checking this out!!!…
“I stare at those dumps and I think I am going to see something more. I imagine who is tossing this trash on the street. I want to see people in these piles. I want to see life in the litter. Reality in my rubbish.” Have you heard of that thing Oliver Burkeman tells people to do, look at a painting for three hours or something. I reckon the trash version would bring a lot of this up. You’re short cutting the wellness guyzz.

the bulb is radioactive????? noooooooooo. I shouldn't be surprised. humans are dumb.
Without a doubt the most attractive trash I've ever seen. And to think it all came from your front porch. Amazing.
…all because of rock and roll…

I love your attitude. Very Stoic!
...if not stoic definitely cynic..no matter which way i go my philosophy has the "ick" as the kids probably don't like to say...
I wrote about trash or 'rubbish' as we call it in NZ... https://rosiewhinray.substack.com/p/free-shit-a-rubbish-manifesto

…we all pay the fine!!!…it is oddly transfixing, disgusting, sad and beautiful all at once…
So someone mailed you the masters and they were stolen from your porch? Damn!!!!
Photos are amazing.

Your photo essays are such a vibe.

…i have not!…but that is a cool meditation…and i will test it out…no way it is worse for my brain than watching old 80’s slashers…
Haha sweet, make sure you report back. I want to know how long it takes to see the slashers in the trash
I liked the story. Can relate, not to the trash part and stolen mail, but to city imposing a fine that isn't warranted.
I laughed at the quotes. And was amazed at the amount of photos around the subject.
…the lower casing was especially unnecessary…
Love this so much
…thank you bud!…it was a (delight?) to make…so much to see in the world…
