Seven is the seventh studio album by American rock band Winger. It marks the return of guitarist/keyboardist Paul Taylor to the band since 1990's In the Heart of the Young. The album was preceded by the lead single "Proud Desperado". The band toured in the UK in May and the US in June 2023 in support of the album. Writing for Classic Rock, Johnny Sharp opined that Winger "are of course well aware of what their audience wants from them and have no need to reinvent themselves" and asked "who cares when the choruses are this big?" Kris Peters of Heavy Mag wrote "musically the whole album is brilliant, with enough variations within the rock genre to keep it fresh and exuberant" and that Seven is "classic stadium rock with big hooks and accessible music, but damn isn't it good to hear again?" Rob Smith of Ultimate Classic Rock stated, "That the group has made an album as rock-solid as Seven is a testament to their collective power and virtuosity, and to the singular force that is their namesake leader." Smith concluded by writing that "If you like potent hard rock and virtuosic playing, you owe it to yourself to check out Seven".
Fantastic writing as usual! I'm always inspired by how you handle difficult topics with levity. I saw on your Youtube channel you did a show in Rogers Park! That's where I live. I wonder if the place is still open?
...woohoo that's amazing -- not only did we play in Roger Park we wrote a whole EP for it (ERP Saints aka East Rogers Park Saints)...been so long since I have been back there but I most fondly remember the village north theater which I would sum as what it mgiht feel like to watch a movie from inside of a garbage can (saw Scary Movie 1+2 there and 8 Mile)...so many good chicago memories of this era...and the vnues, empty bottle, the mutiny, fireside bowl, and a bunch of punk basements...it was a fun era...how would you describe Rogers Park these days?...
Oooo cool I'll have to give that a listen! I love living here. It's walking distance to the lake. Unfortunately a lot of the places you'd remember a probably closed now. The movie theatre closed permanently 2 years ago. But, the venue is for lease if you're ever curious about starting another theatre there. I'd love to have one in the neighborhood again. It probably closed because their movie choices weren't great. For a few months Barbie was the only thing on view lol. That was right before it closed down.
My only gripe really is the lack of coffee shops, venues, social events. I enjoy it being a little on the outskirts of the city so it's quieter. I live right down the street from a place called the Albion house...I wonder if you ever went there? It's big in the punk scene here...which I'm not a part of...and they mostly play heavy metal. I think it's been around for a while now.
…have been to the albion - what a trip!…is homeland cafe still a thing?…elvis got called a fascist and kicked out of it one night for playing acoustic death metal at an open mic…
Legendary Black Stool gig! Heartland Cafe closed a few years ago, got torn down and replaced by a condo. Remember Morseland? That got torn down too. (Apparently in 2012!) Sheridan is a little more generic/collegiate than it was in your time. Rogers Park still funky/beautiful though. I live on Sheridan & Morse so it's all about the lake and being able to walk to it every day.
...like gilbert gottfried might have said before he got cancelled for tsunami jokes...aflack!...appreciate you dropping by...Elvis will come back some day...and if not I am sure he'll stay hidden for good reasons...thanks so much for reading/listening/looking...
…and here i thought i was going to be looking up some mimetic based sub culture of actual mimes…very possible Jeff, never tested for that largely because I don’t like tests…teehee…stoked you dug this…was a fun diversion to start the summer with and a good reminder to start digitizing the rest of my archives…
This is fucking great dude. Ugh no notes
…you rule brother thank you!…
The last rock and roll band
…is winger still active?…

BUT I prefer No Doctors
…this might be the strongest no doctors record review of all time…
LOVE - "I look back because I look forward to what will end up there."
Same.
Also, let's bring back the belt buckle!
…that was a great buckle…
I was poring through the photos like a movie and heard the thought "this is a life"
I love this. Great photos! I wish I saw No Doctors at Fireside Bowl! Maybe I did see you at Southgate…
…fireside bowl was such a sick venue…but down the street, the mutiny, holy heck i loved that bar…
Sick post. Like a time travel tube to 2002 with all the nauseating euphoria that would entail.
Disposable camera for the win all the way
…i need to buy more of those…also no cripes I got around 2k more of these to digitize…
Wow the photos make the piece!
…thanks so much for the edit help…really pushed me in the right direction…

…love that lake and endless beach…
This was a great trip! Thanks for sharing - some thrilling timez and the rock lives on!
…it truly was an awesome era…may there be many more…
Holy spin doctors this is incredible, no doctors were some real raw, real nice noise, dig it. I like your nostalgia.
…thank you king…how we never collaborated with the spin doctors i will never know…
What the absolute ducking quack! That was insane.
I have so much to say, yet I don’t feel the need to. It’s there.
Thanks for sharing!
P.S. Sorry to hear about Elvis.

whoa, cansafis! rock on in your youthful wildness and beauty. too cool, I can hardly look, getting blinded...
...so nice Ed!!...not gonna lie...was a really fun era...
You may have the 5-HTTLPR gene... Great piece.
…what a rabbit hole…i think i am most amused at the amount of scientists studying nostalgia… https://www.southampton.ac.uk/~crsi/Luo%20et%20al.%202019%20Social%20Neuroscience.pdf … maybe i should become a scientist when i grow up…
