"We are so dumb that our present is now closer to our past than it is to our future." Apparently talking about how dumb you are makes you a lot smarter than the average person.
...let's give me some credit too...i am also incredibly stupid...to demonstrate i am going to go lowest hanging fruit here and openly wonder how a man named Dickens didn't start all of his novels gazing at the pantylines of the world...what an [oliver] twist that might have been!...
This is beautifully written. And brings up a couple things for me.
1. If you have Disney+, check out Pixar's 'Sanjay's Super Team'. The comparisons between polytheistic religions and superhero cartoons is wonderful.
2. The us-vs-them thing is evolutionary. We won't be able to get rid of it. We might be able to focus it, to expand the 'us', to consciously choose not to act on it, but it will always be there. It was a thing in animals well before humans showed up on this planet, and considering we are refusing to see it, it's unlikely to leave us.
3. In lab tests, the scientists tried to show how easy it is to make 'teams' and to hate the other team. They randomly assigned people to groups - and that randomness alone made people suspicious of the others. They even tossed a coin and whether you became a 'heads' or a 'tails' pre-dispositioned you to like your team and dislike the others. It's stupid, and the only way to battle it is to first be aware of it. Like you're doing here. https://imgur.com/gallery/AsKuhOa

...you might be on to something...i am going to have to try this again sometime...
"the sun had barely sniffed the pantyline of the horizon" is the best opening line since A Tale Of Two Cities
